    Medicine Description

About Repaglinide Meglitinide derivative, Insulin Secretagogue, Oral anti-diabetic drug. Mechanism of Action of Repaglinide It is a quick and short acting antidiabetic drug which exerts it`s action by stimulating insulin release from ?-cells of pancreas. It acts by binding to sulfonylurea receptor and to other distinct receptors and closes ATP dependent potassium channels and thus causes depolarization. This depolarization of pancreatic ? cells causes opening of Ca channels and increased Ca influx which induces insulin secretion. Indications for Repaglinide Non-insulin dependent diabetes mellitus (as adjunct to diet and exercise) Interactions for Repaglinide Ketoconazole, miconazole and erythromycin: Metabolism of repaglinide inhibited. Troglitazone, rifampicin, barbiturates and carbamazepine: Increase metabolism of repaglinide.
